Everybody has heard about J.K. Rowling, author of the hugely successful `Harry Potter’ books. Not forgetting of course, the wonderful films which followed; Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry’s broomstick flying lessons which were filmed right here in Northumberland – at Alnwick Castle.
J.K. Rowling’s latest book, `Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’ was published in early November and the beautiful illustrations found in the novel were drawn by Olivia Lomenech Gill, illustrator, artist and printmaker, based here in Belford. `Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’ and the second film in the series `Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald’, starring Johnny Depp, are now available on DVD.
Following the illustration work Olivia completed for popular children’s author, Michael & Clare Morpurgo with the book `Where my Wellies Take Me’, she was approached by J.K. Rowling with a commission to create the illustrations for `Fantastic Beasts’.
Olivia and her husband, Vincent run Lomenech Gill & Fils gallery and studio, located two doors down from Post Office House, where their services extend to conservation framing and paper restoration. There are a range of Olivia’s unique etchings and prints for sale with much of her inspiration taken from the Northumbrian coastline and countryside.
